October 2019 - PK 4

This will be a very exciting month! We will be learning about the ocean. Oceans occupy 71% of our Planet and its water contains salt and other minerals. Bacterias and sun light helped create the first sea creatures. The Ocean has many types of animals which are group by their characteristics: invertebrates which have no bones, echinoderms which have spines, mollusk which has soft tissue and can live in any water temperature, vertebrates which have bones. In the Ocean we can also find jellyfish which is an invertebrate gelatinous animal shaped as an umbrella. Crustaceans are invertebrates who have a hard shell.

We will understand that it is important to keep our oceans clean and protected otherwise these wonderful animals can die! What an incredible underwater world!

In Art, we will learn a great technique: Composition. We will understand how to properly work in a format and different positions of an image.

Rhyme of the Month

Five cranky crabs were digging on the shore.

One swam into a net and then there were four.

Four cranky crabs were floating in the sea.

One got tangled up in seaweed then there were three.

Three cranky crabs were wondering what to do.

One dug a deep, deep hole. Then there were two.

Two cranky crabs were warming in the sun.

One got scooped up in a cup. Then there was one.

One cranky crab was smarter than his friends.

He hid between the jagged rocks.

That's how the story ends.

Song of the Month

KEEP THE OCEAN CLEAN by Birdsong and the eco wonders

I asked my friends, the dolphins, what each of us could do

To help them survive another million years or two.

And the dolphins said:

Chorus

"Keep the ocean clean! That's the most important thing.

Please . . .

Pick your trash up off the beach.

Recycle your plastic bags.

Find out what pollutes the sea.

And ask your friends to help keep the ocean clean.

After all, the ocean is our home," said:

(my friends the dolphins) (the fascinating sharks, oh yeah)

After the all the ocean is our home.

I asked the fascinating sharks what each of us could do

To help them survive another million years or two.

And the pointy snouted blue and the hammerhead too said:

"You know what to do, you know what to do.

You know what to do!" (to Chorus)

"Imagine," said the sea turtle, "That you're as hungry as can be."

Well a plastic bag floating by looks a lot like a sea jelly."

(And sea turtles love sea jellies!)

"But swallowing a plastic bag would be the end of me.

So please keep all kinds of plastic out of the sea."

"Keep...it...clean...please!"

Final Chorus

"Keep the ocean clean! That's the most important thing.

Please . . .

Pick your trash up off the beach.

Recycle your plastic bags.

Find out what pollutes the sea.

And ask your friends to help keep the ocean clean,

After all, the ocean is our home," said the hungry sea turtles.

"After the all the ocean is our home," said the whales and

the fish and the sea otter and the tide pool creatures.

"After all, the ocean is our home," said the seals and

the sea lions and the walruses and Oxford the Octopus.

"After all, the ocean is our home.

After all, the ocean is our home."
